Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the first copy of ‘Zee Marathi Disha’ in Mumbai on Tuesdayalong with Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra, former Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Union minister of state for social justice Ramdas Athawale, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, Mumbai city mayor Shri Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, and ‘Zee Marathi Disha’ editor-in-chief Vijay Kuvalekar.
Speaking at the event, Raj Thackeray ji talks about the feeling of holding a freshly printed newspaper in his hand, “I remember going with my father to the press and the fragrance of a newspaper, as is from this one in my hand, is just something different. My political career also started from working in the news and it is a special kind of excitement.”
“My political cartooning started off at a weekly,” he adds. “Despite media like WhatsApp, Facebook, and the Internet, there is no enjoyment like opening a newspaper and reading it,” he says, adding that he liked the smell of a freshly-printed newspaper.
He also recalls how he met and interacted often with Subhashji. Speaking about his association with Subhashji, the MNS president lauds his vision and foresight. He narrates an incident from 1986-87 about Subhashji traveling on a plane and having a conversation about launching a new TV channel.
Noting that he will draw a cartoon strip in the Shiv Sena organ Saamna on the events in the week gone by, Raj ji says he would also draw cartoons for ‘ZEE Marathi Disha’.
