In this week’s episode of the Subhash Chandra Show, Shri Subhash Chandra interacts with the audience about ‘How to be a Performer in a team’. Through Swami Vivekananda Ji and Chanakya Ji sayings and readings Subhash Ji shed light on the aspects of being a team player and succeeding as a team.
He begins the show by asking why we fail to function as a team? Hearing out the opinions of the audience he gives them three mantras quoting Swami Vivekananda Ji. He says, “There is a reason why Swami Vivekananda Ji said that Indian youth should play football and it is because without great team work it is not possible to play and win in this game. Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together is success.”
Elaborating on team spirit and the role of an individual in a team, he quotes Acharya Chanakya Ji and says, “नैकं चक्रं परिभ्रम्यति|” i.e. you cannot move a chariot having a single wheel.”
Defining the word Team he says, “TEAM” as an acronym can be interpreted as- ‘T’ represents Together. ‘E’ stands for Everyone, ‘A’ signifies Achieves and ‘M’ indicates More.”
The first guest on the show is Changemaker, Shri Vijay Barse, Founder, Slum Soccer, an NGO with an aim to promote development of slum children through the medium of football on a daily basis. Speaking about his journey he says that he saw a bunch of poor kids kicking around a broken plastic bucket with absolute abandon and glee, totally unmindful of the rain and the slush. The scene stuck to his mind. Not only did he go back and get them a real football, but he decided to create an opportunity, a platform for more such kids to come out and play.
Answering the doubts and queries of the audience, Subhash Ji advocates the principle of Art of Tough Love and focused on how one should accept diversity in a team, be more open to new ideas and consider competition as a positive step in making any organization successful.
He also answers questions about conflict resolution in a team, creativity and its importance, competition and its role within a team, and factors to consider while building a team. Quoting Acharya Chanakya Ji he says, “Nothing succeeds like success.”
The second guest on the show is motivational speaker, Shri Shridhar Shankarrao Thakre, Executive Director Mahaorange who motivated the audience and guided them on how to work in a team. Instead of taking up a job after graduation in 1971 he decided to carry on with his family agriculture farming and started Krishi Sewa Kendra (advise on farming policies and use of pesticides and fertilizers). After having started several social initiatives he continues to be instrumental in providing various job opportunities to farmers and their families of Maharashtra.
He speaks about setting up teams and managing them in order to work for the benefit of the farmer community as a whole.
In conclusion Subhash Ji says, “There are complications in everything, politics in everything. Often, some people may not want you to work well in a team. This friction can arise from inside your family or from your community and area or city. But to deal with these one must remember the art of giving and the happiness it brings with it.”
