Subhash Chandra has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the nullification of Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

“I congratulate the Prime Minister and the Home Minister for the historic and bold proposal. Not just Kashmir, but all Kashmiris are our people. This will make India a united India,” Subhash ji said in a tweet.

While speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Subhash ji recalled his personal experiences with Pakistan and the discussions he had with both Indian and Pakistani politicians on the issue of Article 370.

He said that in 1994-95 when Pakistan was facing general election and Benazir Bhutto was the prime minister. People used to watch Zee TV in Pakistan. Bhutto had stopped the broadcast of the poll campaign of Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan. We had sent a team from London and ensured the coverage,” Subhash ji said.

After the elections were over, he was called to Pakistan as a state guest, wherein he had attended a dinner thrown for him by Pakistan judicial association.

“They told me that the issue of Kashmir can be resolved in India if Article 370 is revoked. I came back and asked all my friends as to why the article was not being scrapped,” said Subhash Chandra.

He said all his friends from different political parties said that Article 370 should be scrapped but it’s a political decision and repealing it doesn’t suit them.

Subhash ji also countered opposition lawmakers’ characterisation of Article 370 as the basis on which Jammu and Kashmir had acceded to the Union of India.

“The opposition has said that Article 370 is responsible for Kashmir’s merger with India. This is incorrect, because the accession took place in 1947, but Article 370 was brought in 1949. Since then, tens of thousands of people have died, including members of the Forces and common citizens. I believe all this happened only because of Article 370,” Subhash ji said in the Rajya Sabha.

Subhash ji also spoke of his visit to Kashmir’s Baramulla in 2018 to film an episode of the Subhash Chandra Show, which saw 2000 youth participated in the discussion over a period of four hours. He recalled the youngsters telling him that Kashmir’s youth support India, but are scared into not expressing such views by the separatists.

Subhash ji concluded his speech by quoting the famous lines of Persian master poet Amir Khusrow, and expressing hope that Kashmir would again become paradise on earth.
