Shri Subhash Chandra addressed the mega-groundbreaking ceremony in Lucknow on Sunday. He began his address by recalling the promise made when Essel Group completed nine decades. He said, “In 2016, on the completion of 90 years of Essel Group, we had made a promise that whatever new work we do from now will be for social or environmental or national interest or for employment creation.”

“In 2017 we made a five-year plan. According to it, we would be able to create employment for nine lakh people. And with God’s grace we hope to take that number to ten lakhs,” he added.

Speaking about the plight of the e-rickshaw driver, he said, “There are around 6 lakh e-rickshaws in the country. The e-rickshaw runs with lead battery and it takes the driver three-four hours to charge.”

Presenting a solution that Essel Group has come up with, he said, “If this battery will be replaced with lithium-ion battery it, will take one hour to recharge.” This will not just be cost-effective but allow the driver to increase his income from Rs.400 to Rs.600-700 per day.  “The second option is to replace the battery with a pre-charged battery that takes only four minutes to do,” he added.

During the UP Investor’s Summit, Essel Group had had announced its intent of providing 1,30,000 jobs to people of UP. Subhash ji said, “I am pleased to say that through the 25,000 e-Rickshaw and 25,000 e-auto fleet aggregation models, the Essel Group will be able to provide employment to 50,000 people.”

Subhash Ji also spoke about how the price of the e-auto was made more economical by working with the manufacturers so that now there is only a difference of Rs 40,000 as compared to conventional rickshaws. “At the same time the government will issue permits to the drivers themselves and after five years the e-rickshaw too will be under their ownership,” he added speaking about the program announced by the group as an aggregator with the Uttar Pradesh Government.

Praising the speed and honesty with which the CM Yogi Ji led government is working, Subhash Ji expressed confidence about the projects worth Rs 22,500 crores pledged earlier in the year and said, “I am sure we will complete these and go even further.”

Two electric buses were also donated to the state under a pilot project and will ply between Lucknow, Kanpur, and Agra to Delhi routes. These were inaugurated later in day by CM Yogi Ji.

The event was attended by the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Honourable Governor Of Uttar Pradesh Shri Ram Naik Ji, Honourable Union Minister Shri Rajnath Ji, Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Ji and other dignitaries.
